This is a public reminder of the very natural experiences that tend to be forgotten in an urban setting. Not so much from an environmentalist’s standpoint but rather from the perspective of simply appreciating it for what it is. There’s always a bit of nostalgia there when we remember the sea. As if the air used to be cleaner, the sun warmer and there was nothing to worry about. An old school tv only helps drive that nostalgia home – it is a dying breed that hits you right in the face. It doesn’t let you immerse yourself in the experience. The way our memories lack in clarity its there to draw attention to the fact that representations will always fall short of the real thing and only manage to recreate only some aspect of the indivisible and unimitatable experience of the self falling away.
